Somebody thought you'd get something out of this, so they passed it on to you. Two Whiteboard Sessions, an hour each, on whatever is actually live for you at the moment.
It isn't a consultation, and it isn't a sales call.
You arrive with whatever is on your mind. It goes on the board. We think it through together, out loud, until it is clear enough to act on.
There is no assessment to complete first, no framework to be walked through, and nothing to prepare. The session starts with the actual question, not with an introduction to a method.
I am not there to watch you think. I am the other mind in the room, asking the question you had stopped asking, catching the thing you have gone blind to because you see it every day.
Your thinking, out of your head, onto the board, into a solution.
There is no right thing to bring. Whatever has been sitting with you longest is usually the right thing. In practice it tends to be one of these.
The decision you have been carrying for months. The one you keep meaning to sit down and think about properly, and keep not doing, because the week never leaves room for it.
The thing that is stuck and you cannot see why. Where you know the output is wrong but you cannot work out which part of the machine is producing it.
The call you have already made and have not committed to. Where you know what you are going to do and something is holding you back from doing it.
Most owners arrive thinking they will need to explain the background first. It usually takes about four minutes, and then we are into it.
You have to run your own business.
That is genuinely the only condition. It does not matter what stage you are at, how many people you have, or whether the thing on your mind is strategic, operational or personal. If you own the business, the invitation applies.
There is no expiry date on it either. Use it when there is something actually worth an hour of proper thinking.
Nothing, unless you want it to.
You have been given two hours. If at the end of them the thinking is done and you have what you came for, that is a complete outcome and there is nothing further to discuss.
Some owners want to keep going, and that conversation happens naturally in the room rather than through a follow-up sequence. Either way, the two hours are yours and they are not conditional on anything.
What can I say about the work John has done with us today at Arrow Planning. He's just delivered a fantastic coaching session with the team. We've been working through some genuinely difficult subjects, and he's presented them in a way that's allowed everybody to engage properly with these difficult matters.
It takes a real weight off my shoulders. The pressure and expectation isn't solely on me. I'm not standing there having to find a way through these problems alone. John leads me through them, then comes in and helps me actually activate them within the team, creating solutions that set the standard for the future.
The hour is the point. Not a step towards something else.
Pick a time that suits you. Bring whatever is actually on your mind, including if it is not fully formed yet. That is usually a better starting point than a tidy question.
